TITANIC SCIENCE CENTER EXHIBIT BEGINS WITH TITANIC IMAGE
When the Maryland Science Center and SFX wanted to launch their new Titanic exhibit and grab Baltimore's attention in a big way, they knew just who to call: Signs Now of Linthicum.
The local digital display and imaging company produced a graphic of the ill-fated ship that was 75 feet wide and 56 feet tall to install on the side of the Science Center's IMAX Theater.
"Titanic Science is our biggest and most ambitious exhibit to date," said Christine Rowett, a Science Center spokesperson. "We found an ambitious way to promote it and were thrilled that Signs Now was able to pull it off."
Signs Now used digital technology to enlarge an original 8" x 10" photograph to make the giant four-color image, then produced 105 98" x 56" pressure sensitive vinyl panels that had to be painstakingly assembled and installed on site. It took Signs Now three days to print, trim and label the panels. It took another 5 days for Perceptual Motion, Inc., of Aberdeen, MD, to complete the installation
"The weather during installation was the big problem," said Joe Amey, Signs Now's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "It was cold with rain and gale-force winds."
Despite the uncooperative weather, the sign was installed on time, even though the Science Center's deadline was very tight.
"The crew from Signs Now did a great job with this project," Rowett said. "The result of their hard work is a stunning visual that really catches the eye and draws people into the exhibit."
Signs Now of Linthicum uses large format digital technology to produce banners, signs, displays, murals, vehicle graphics and billboards. For more information call Pete Dilworth at 410-789-5030 or 800-387-4467 or e-mail pete@signsnowdigital.com.
